I was leaving a meeting recently when a new comer with 28 days came up to me and thanked me for sharing. He was an older man about my age and he proceeded to tell me now that he is clean & sober he has to figure this all out. I laughed and he asked me what was so funny? I told him that the last thing he should try to do is figure this all out. I explained that recovery is like a strong river and once you jump in, don’t try to figure out where the river will take you, don’t swim against the current, don’t hold on to the shore kicking and screaming and whatever you do, don’t ever get out of the river. He smiled and asked “then what should I do”? I smiled back at him and said, “just flip over and float”.
